Argentina's Messi and Fernandez Star in Crucial Win
Argentina's hopes of advancing to the knockout round of the World Cup were hanging by a thread after a shocking first-round loss to Saudi Arabia.
But on Saturday, Lionel Messi and Enzo Fernandez led Argentina to a much-needed 2-0 victory over Mexico at Lusail Stadium.
Messi opened the scoring in the 64th minute with a curling free kick that flew over the Mexican wall and into the top corner of the net. Fernandez added an insurance goal in the 87th minute with a powerful shot from outside the box.
With the win, Argentina moved into second place in Group C with three points, one behind Poland. Argentina will face Poland on Wednesday in their final group match, while Mexico will take on Saudi Arabia.
