FBI and ATF Investigate 164 Structure Fires

In the first few days after George Floyd was killed by Minneapolis police, rioters tore through dense pockets of the Twin Cities, setting buildings ablaze and looting businesses.

According to the FBI and ATF, 164 structure fires were intentionally set during the protests that occurred May 27-30, 2020. The fires caused an estimated $500 million in damage.

The fires were mostly concentrated in Minneapolis and Saint Paul, but they also occurred in other parts of the state. The majority of the fires were set in commercial buildings, but some residential buildings were also targeted.

The FBI and ATF are investigating the fires and have made several arrests. However, they are still seeking information about who is responsible for setting the fires.
